BIOGRAPHY

Than Kyaw Htay is a renowned contemporary artist from Myanmar, born in 1978 in Sittwe, Rakhine State. He studied under prominent artists, including U Soe Htay, U Tun Aye, U Win Pe Myint, U Kyaw Thu Yin, U Win Tint, U Thet Oo, and U Than Kywe. He attended the State School of Fine Art in Yangon from 1997 to 2000, and later continued his studies under Win Pe Myint in 2000.

Than Kyaw Htay has exhibited his works in numerous solo and group shows in Myanmar and abroad. His solo exhibitions include “Silent Sweat” at River Art Gallery in Yangon in 2014, “Silent Steps” at River Art Gallery in Yangon in 2020, and “Silent Walks” at Retour de Voyage Art Gallery in L’isle Sur la Sorgue, France, also in 2020. He has participated in group shows such as “Myanmar 2050, River Gallery Artists Annual Exhibition” in Yangon in 2017, and “La Birmanie en 2019” at Retour de Voyage Gallery in France in 2019.

His works hold both artistic and cultural values. They reflect the social problems faced by the Rakhine people concerning water and present perspectives on the life and society of Myanmar’s people through beautiful paintings. He was honored with the “Artist Award 2022” from CLMTV&CN Contemporary Art Network, the six nations of the Mekong sub-region.

Than Kyaw Htay’s works have been collected by various institutions, including the World Bank Organization (Myanmar Branch). His art style is characterized by his use of vibrant colors and textured brushstrokes, often depicting rural life in Myanmar and its people.
